Service Philosophy
The United Toll Systems, LLC approach to toll management is significantly different from others in the industry. As a toll facility owner and operator, UTS can leverage our past experience as well as our close communication with current customers to continually develop aspects of the Toll Management System. Maintainability and reliable system operation are the benefits to our customers.
The United Toll Systems maintenance program employs the Maintenance Online Management System (MOMS) and other unique active monitoring tools to provide the three levels of maintenance: preventive, predictive, and corrective.
Preventive Maintenance
Preventive maintenance includes these scheduled
routine activities:
- Physical inspection guided by checklists
- Equipment cleaning
- Lubricating moving parts such as barrier arms
- Checking electrical connections and mechanical mounting
In addition, environmental operating conditions including temperature, water intrusions, air quality, and so on are monitored by an online system. Manufacturers recommend these procedures for keeping all equipment running at its best. Regular observation of toll equipment can help technicians determine any unusual situations or deterioration. Most preventive maintenance items do not impact tolling operations. If a lane closure is required, it can be scheduled in advance for off-peak hours and coordinated with Operations management.
Predictive Maintenance
United Toll Systems has developed and implemented specific sensors, monitoring processes, and diagnostic procedures for predictive diagnostic maintenance. For example, our software monitors critical power supply voltages and alerts on values outside the acceptable range. Effort to resolve the lowered voltage issue prevents electronic component wear and eventual failure.
We also employ the expected lifetime data from equipment manufacturer history for predictive replacement of certain components. If a critical component typically fails at 100,000 hours and the standard deviation is 10,000 hours in the manufacturer’s data, our software schedules a predictive replacement at 90,000 hours of use.
If a technician observes degrading component performance, it can be returned to the Staging Center Lab. The objective of this preventative awareness is to respond to potential failures before they compromise service.
Corrective Maintenance
Remote diagnostics and assessment is available for components that fail while in service. Alerted to the failure by the Maintenance Online Management System (MOMS), the UTS Help Desk technician notifies the field technician by cell phone. The UTS Help Desk technician originates a maintenance work ticket, co-ordinates with the technician to troubleshoot the failure, tracks the action to completion, and then logs the completed event for future reference.
The system tracks any repair or replacement parts, manages the RMA process, and can also create material requisitions for consumables and spare reorder. After replacement, the defective unit can be returned to United Toll Systems for evaluation, and repair or disposal.
