Electronic Toll Collection
& RF-Tracking
UTS utilizes the toll tag for much more than just revenue collection. We take advantage of all tag reads, early, late, or cross-lane to track the vehicle.
UTS does not attempt to contain the Radio Frequency (RF) emitting from multiple antennas that read toll tags (transponders) in an Open Road Tolling zone. We are aware that a vehicle traveling in an Open Road Tolling environment can travel at any point within the tolling zone, including in between the lanes (straddle) or on the shoulders of the roadway. We take advantage of RF properties to leverage toll tags for tracking vehicles as they travel through the tolling zone, no matter where the vehicles are located. Combining this data with IVIS and VES data, also captured in the zone, produces a specific vehicle tracking profile. This patent-pending technique has proven to be highly successful for accurately creating unique vehicle transactions.
Benefits of using United Toll Systems RF-Tracking include:
- Detects toll tags anywhere in a multi-lane
Open Road Tolling zone - Accommodates various toll tag types
(beam, battery, sticker, and others) - Accommodates any third-party RF system of
the tolling authority’s choice - Provides close coordination with RF antenna manufacturer
